Great story. It's funny that you eneded your rant with "are you that dumb?" and the guy paid up.

The owners of some of these gyms and restaurants are just freaking idiots. They're not in the building most of the time, instead leaving day-to-day decisions in the hands of their managers. So when it's time to make a decision themselves, they have no idea about making a correct PR move because they're used to the bottom line and that's it.

Case in point, my buddy and I went out to six or seven restaurants this past year looking for somebody to sponsor our softball team. Bar after bar rejected our proposal, and us until I went off on one guy:

"You mean to tell me that you're not going to spend $550 - a tax write off mind you - to sponsor us, when we're offering to bring in 11 to 20 people every Tuesday night and order food and drinks? Do you realize how dumb that is? You're going to make your $550 back in two weeks, and then you're going to make another $1,500 in food and drink purchases. Seriously, I want to know – are you that dumb?"

He cut us the check and we never missed a week going to his bar/restaurant after games. He made a killing off us and all it cost him was $550 and some free jerseys...
