Braves send “Salty” to Rangers for Teixeira
The Atlanta Braves just added a major piece to their lineup by acquiring first baseman Mark Teixeira from the Texas Rangers. It didn’t come without a steep price, however, as the Braves had to package four young prospects, including stud catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and shortstop Elvis Andrus. The Braves are also in the process of swapping relievers with the Royals, acquiring Octave Dotel in exchange for Kyle Davies.
I know Saltalamacchia (who is a borderer’s worst nightmare) was the future backstop of the Braves, but Teixeira is an absolute stud and is still young at 27. Atlanta lost a future catcher, but gained an already young and proven corner infielder who can hit for average and power.
It will be interesting to see if the Mets counter this deal or rest their hopes on a healthy Pedro Martinez, who is set to do a rehab assignment later this week.
Braves are the best team in the MLB, we have great fans, really Atlanta has great fans we just need to stay up. For example, last week in Atlanta an associate of mine wanted to watch the Braves, so I tried to get him front seats, guess what everything was sold out that show how great our fans are. Bay24 you took the words right out of my mouth. When was the last time the Braves filled the stadium for a playoff game? And they’ve had plenty of opportunities.
Braves aren’t even in the top 5 teams in MLB. You’ve got to count the AL when you talk about MLB………….

Atlant fans are shakey – look at the Hawks, even the Falcons without Vick and Blank giving away those uppers in the Dome ? C’mon now Big Ticket …. in the first round of baseball playoffs at Atlanta every year it’s ” Plenty of Good seats available ”

Tom Hicks reports that he offered Tiexiera a $140M contract and Tex turned it down before the trade. Oh yes…and Tiexiera’s agent is Scott Boras.
I suppose you guys will pin that one on Steinbrenner just like you pin the ridiculous A-Rod contract that Steinbrenner had nothing to do with.
Well – Steinbrenner didn’t want Tiexiera – if they did – they would pay the freight. They WANTED A-Rod – so they had to show everybody how it’s done.

The Yanks wanted him but the Rangers wanted too much in return. George didn’t offer a-rod that contract. A-Rod probably had to talk Hicks DOWN during those negotiations.

He’s probably a freakin bargain at yankee financial terms. The yankees have bought ,sold, traded,overpaid a hundred guys since King G took over in 1973 and you keep going back to one over-priced signing by one other owner ? And again – A Rod is the best player in the game – he should be the highest paid. A Rod what , makes $22 mill a year and you have a Balco boy like Giambi making $18 million a year ? Who’s contract is worse ? Here is a dude you stole out of Oakland as the AL MVP. Always hurt, no rings, and under the scope for roids. You probably have eight guys on the yankees with worse contracts than A Rod.
