Briggs, Bears ready to kiss and make up?
According to the Chicago Tribune, the Bears disgruntled linebacker Lance Briggs was close to signing his one-year franchise tender Wednesday.
There were strong indications Tuesday night the two sides either were coming close to an agreement that would end a messy contract dispute or had solved it altogether.
I’m not surprised that Briggs is thinking about reneging on his, “I’m done in Chicago” threats, but it is a little surprising that he may sign before camp. Most players have no problem holding out of the grueling training camp sessions, but once they catch a sniff of the regular season they come crawling back. Briggs is a competitor and I don’t care what he’s said in the past, he’s not going to want to lose out on $7.2 million this year to try and prove a point. We’ll see if he officially caves in and signs the tender within the next few days.
Update: Briggs caved.

If Briggs is smart he will sign and suit-up.
The man’s got to feed his family. He can barely make it on what they were offering, I’m sure.
Well, the deal is done and Briggs is playing again for the Bears, contrary to what he predicted.
Both sides win on this one. As T-Bone said, Briggs can now feed his family this year…ha, and the Bears keep a pro-bowl linebacker. He’ll play hard this year looking toward next year when they won’t put the franchise tag on him and he can shop around..
As the Bears open camp today, things are looking ok. Mike Brown is healthy, Vasher and Tillman signed multi-year contracts, Adam Archuleta will add and Tommy Harris is hopefully healthy. We know they will show up for every game.
On the offensive side, Grossman enters only his second full season of play. Hester is moving into more plays, and Olson will definitely help Rex’s jittery feet. If Benson stays healthy it will be a plus, but Adrian Peterson and Wolfe are good back ups.
Da Bear is alive and excited for Da Bears !
Love, Lovie
This organization has been a prime example of how to sign the players they want & need to move forward in a positive manner for the rest of the league. Dropping Tank no questions asked after the numbskull was dumb enough to drink & drive (over the limit or not). First team to sign their 1st Round pick, with Bauzin now signed as well, it’s nice to know there’s no annoying hold-out going into training camp.
Good Job JA & McCasky’s (surprised I’m actually saying that)
Looking forward to seeing these guys soon in BEARbournnais….
