Pacman allowed to workout with Titans? Thank God.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is debating whether or not to allow cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones to workout at Titans’ training camp later this month. A decision should be announced by the end of the week.
The commissioner apparently will weigh at least two elements before making a ruling. One involves whether Jones violated terms of his suspension when he was identified by Atlanta police as being part of a group that was involved in a shooting outside a strip club on June 18. Jones is not a suspect in the shooting.
This may sound ridiculous for Goodell to even consider, I mean, Pacman was suspended for the entire season, so why should he have the right to workout with the team, right? Wrong. If he’s in practice it means he’s spending more time doing something productive for once instead out at a club “making it rain” and punching strippers. I’m all for the idea of keeping this a-hole off the streets as much as humanly possible.

While I hear what you’re saying about keeping him off the streets, I disagree with letting him workout with the Titans. The NFL has to take a stance with a zero tolerance policy. If they suspend him, its has to be 100%. The Titan home faclity is not a Halfway House for criminals. Maybe a jail cell is more suitable for him?
I’m with the Dawgger on this one. Hey – if you are suspended for a good reason – why should you be allowed to practice ? Dude – you have been penalized – you’re outta here.
I hear what you guys are saying, but riddle me this:
What’s better for Pacman, his team, and society in general: Pacman on the streets with a bunch of free time, or him actually doing something productive for once? And it’s not like the Titans are paying him or these 2-a-days are a walk in the park…he’ll actually have to work.
Maybe being around his teammates will actually wake him up…MAYBE, MAYBE, I’m saying MAYBE…
Personally, I have had enough of him. I’m all about 2nd – even 3rd chances … this guy seems to be an in-your-face punk that seems invincible and doesn’t respect the law. Too many bad decisions Pacman – you don’t respect your job as an NFL PROfessional. I say go away for a year and lets see if you can make some better decisions with your life.
Fair enough, but I think we’re going to see him wind up in more trouble, which doesn’t benefit anybody or anyone.
We’ve seen his interviews where he’s said he’s learned his lesson and will keep his nose clean, then less than a week later police are looking to question him about ANOTHER strip club shooting (although he’s not a suspect). Then he’s driving a car where the plates don’t match which I think in most states (you never know about South Carolina) is illegal. He obviously hasn’t learned any lesson and he hasn’t earned the right to be on an NFL team. If he’s not on an NFL team, he shouldn’t be on an NFL practice field.
The Titans should show me they’ve got the stones to send a message to the rest of their team and cut this guy like he’s in a nightclub with Ray Lewis.
What if this wasn’t Pacman Jones and a national issue? Take the NFL, money and fame out of the equation and judge what you would want to see happen if it was another 24 year old kid. Would you rather have him at a job or school with others to maybe help guide him one on one and possibly turn around an otherwise troubled person? Or would you rather have him in the same element that has consistently gotten him into trouble?
I go with the viewers on this one…………He is suspended that’s it, no more.
The problem today is we constantly make excuses for everybody we like. Movie Star, Player whatever. The most popular kid in school screws up and other kids can’t wait to be his friend. In my day, he was an asshole that nobody wanted to bothe with .
Parents need to be parents…….they failed in this case and we the people say enough.
Ah, you guys suck, I’m tagging out of this debate. I can see when I’ve got an uphill battle in front of me…
For the record, I don’t like Pacman and I’m not defending him. I’m looking at this situation more on a whole as opposed to, “Let’s get Pacman help!” I could care less if this guy gets help. I’m just saying that these NFL camps are no picnic, the guy is finally going to have to work for something in his life and it’ll keep him off the streets (which helps EVERYBODY). That’s it…just, what’s more beneficial for all parties. It’s not like we have to see this piece of work during the regular season anyway…
Don’t get frustrated A S ……….. If this guy thought like you do – we could support him. This guy has proven over and over he is not interested in becomming a good citizen. And on the flip side – If we keep sticking up for these guys after the 5th offense – they think they have a free pass – for the next time – and the next time. We have seen this show before with the Darryl Strawberry’s, Mike Tysons, Doc Goodens ………… they just don’t appreciate the help we could offer. They just say NO. It’s tough to support them after a while. Pacman has beat me up after what ? One pro season ?
It’s too bad that guys like you are calling for help – but he isn’t ……..
I read they didn’t let him into a Miami club Monday night because “he was wearing shorts.”
Good one, they didn’t let him in cause he’s an asshole!
So Dawg ……………. Do ya like Mr Pacman ?
Koren Robinson is serving his year long suspension and cannot have any involvment with the Packers. I have argued that he should not be banned from all team facilities – I can see keeping him out of games, but why remove him from meetings, practices, workouts? Why isolate him from the discipline and the people who might just be able to help him through the rough spots?
I say let them do everything except attend on game day – I can think of no worse penalty for an athlete. It might also give them both the motivation and the environment to improve themselves. If this is not severe enough for a particular individual, I humbly suggest that the NFL does not need that sort of character. I put Jones in this group.
Kick his thug ass to the curb.
As long as he’s not being paid for attending camp. And how many chances do you give a guy? If he’s not learning a lesson, as Pacman seems to not be, when do you put the responsibility back on him to straighten out HIS life? The NFL does not owe it to a player to fix their problems, that responsibility belongs to the players themselves.
I’m all for rehabilitation, but there comes a time in every man’s life when he needs to stand up and be a man. Pacman is anything nothing but a coward who hides behind his posse, his status as a player, and eventually I’m sure he’ll hide behind his race.
typo…I meant to say Pacman is nothing but a coward.
And a punk.
In my delusion – the pay status should be primarily decided by the team. I suppose the league can fine them as well for infractions they determine are detrimental to the NFL as a whole.
I think we draw the line the same way any other organization does – when the negatives outweigh the positives.
I agree that the league is not responsible for rehabbing the players, but I think the teams should be able to make a judgement call on how they use their resources and how to work best with their players. Basically, I’m for a little more local control.
I think the NFL should show Jones the door and leave a boot print on his rump, but if they decide not to do that, I think the team should be given a little more leeway in how they deal with him.
He won’t be paid at all this season…not for games, practices or scrubbing the toilets at the team complex. He will earn nothing in 2007, at least from the NFL and the Titans, so that’s not even a factor in what we’ve all been discussing.
Suppose you’re a business owner and one of your employees is Michael Vick. Your business is very much in the public eye. How do you handle it?
I don’t care what your business is….you fire him.
