Very good insight AS …. How about the Mets 9th ? – Yanks 17th ? and Cards 19th ? OUCH ………. But it’s a fair judgement right now. Interesting.
Thanks Bay24 – it has been an interesting year so far. The Brewers, Mariners, Yankees, Cardinals – all surprises.
I still think the Tigers are the team to beat, but the Angels and Red Sox are playing tough ball right now. All three teams have pitching and a lineup that could compete with anybody…
I think the Tigers are putting it together – last year they took the first step – this year with the nice pick up with Sheffield. The dude’s born again after escapeing Da Bronx. Angels out west. I think the Brewers will fold and the Cubbies will make a second half run to the division. But out quick.
Sheffield is born again after finding a new supplier now that Balco is out of business.
Excellent report AS. I guess my preseason sleeper pick of the Reds isn’t coming true, huh? I do think if Josh Hamilton has a good 2nd half (and he’s improved since being moved to 2nd in the batting order) he will win the NL ROY. The baseball writers love a feel-good story and this one was made for Hollywood. It doesn’t hurt that this guy is a 5 tool player who isn’t all that far removed from HS baseball so what he’s accomplished so far is astounding. He’s gotten a lot more attention than Tulowitzki and obviously that will work in his favor.
If Delmon Young can improve on his power numbers, he can still win the AL ROY. Matsuzaka and Okajima will cancel each other out in the voting.
Sabbathia should win the AL Cy Young but I’ll make a sleeper pick here and go with Kelvim Escobar, as long as he keeps his head about him and doesn’t blow up. He seems to pitch “loose” every night like he has confidence his team will back him up. Beckett has as good a stuff as anybody and Verlander may sneak in there too.
The NL Cy Young is going to be a shootout between Sheets, Peavy, Zambrano, Penny, and even longshots Webb and Smoltz.
Pretenders – Brewers, Seattle
Real Deal – San Diego (and Arizona), Cleveland
