Packers interested in Keyshawn
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is reporting the Green Bay Packers are interested in wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, who was recently cut by the Carolina Panthers.
According to an NFL source with strong connections to Johnson, the Packers are doing their homework on the 11-year veteran and are considering whether he would be a good fit for their team.
“I think their interest is legitimate,” the source said.
A couple of Packer fans that have posted on this site should be pleased with this news. I don’t see how Johnson would hurt the Packers, especially with veterans Brett Favre and Donald Driver on the offense. Johnson could help tutor second year pro Greg Jennings and certainly would be more productive than the injury-prone Robert Ferguson. Although I would stress at 34, Green Bay only sign him for a one, maybe two years.

As a Bears fan I could think of nothing better to tear that team apart from the inside out than to sign ME-shawn………They blew it by not getting offensive weapons of any value for Lord Favre in the draft.
It’s funny because Keyshawn views himself as the ultimate leader, yet he’s been ushered out the door several times now, including damn near being kicked out in Tampa. Maybe it’s time for him to stop viewing himself as a true #1 receiver and more of a role player…that is, if he wants to continue to be in the league at 34-plus.

I’m not sure I like this idea. I’d really rather see Koren Robinson fill that #3 role. I think he’d be one of the best in the league in that role (if he can get his act together, and keep it together).
Being a Bucs fan, I hate Keyshawn with the rest of them. However, I feel he’s received his fair dose of reality checks over the last few years. I wouldn’t consider him the liability he’s been in the past. It seems like he’s finally accepted his role in the league and will be a solid contributor on a needy team like Green Bay or Tennessee.
Packers and Titans fans should be fighting over this guy (in the short term). Both these teams failed to address the WR need in the draft and could use the support of a seasoned veteran like Keyshawn. Vince Young is going to have a rough year and Favre can’t afford to wait.
Given that we have Favre in the huddle – I think Johnson could work in. He’d certainly get his share of looks. With Driver to balance him, it might work out.
I’m not looking forward to this year with the same offense that couldn’t move the ball in the red zone last year. Jennings showed more than anybody expected, but we need help at WR, RB and TE to do anything better than last year.
Either a number of young players have to step up, we need to pull in some vets, or this is going to be a rough year.
