What are the five best yearly events in sports?
Baseball’s Opening Day is great, but how does it stack up against the Super Bowl and March Madness on the list of the greatest annual sports events? I ranked five of the best annual sporting events while also tabbing the biggest letdowns at Bullz-Eye.com. Click here to read the article.
How would your top five rank out?

Since nobody else wants to play – With tongue planted firmly in cheek – maaaybe.
5. Opening day for the Latino League in the park across from my house. Those folks make a party out of it, but right!
4. The last day of the NBA season.
3. NCAA women’s hockey finals – GO BADGERS!!!
2. The day the Packers beat the Bears – OK, so it’s not exactly a yearly happening, but I’ve been able to celebrate it at least once most every year for the last 15.
1. Any day I can enjoy a game with my son. Trite – but true.
Jeff
Oh sure Jeff, bring up the time spent with the kids and what not and make me look like a jerk! Haha…I think your five are great.
I actually don’t think any “top five” is wrong b/c it’s supposed to be what the event means to you. I’m surprised we haven’t heard more of people’s top fives yet…
AS
Top 5: Super Bowl
NCAA Football Championship
Mens Final 4
Nascar Bristol night race
UNC at Duke mens basketball
Bottom 5: Soccer ( Boring )
Wrestleing
Womens basketball
Bowling
MLB Opening day (because their is no salary cap – and it’s snowing somewhere).
1. Openning Day Yankee Stadium
2. Opening Day World Series, Yankee Stadium
3. Daytona 500 / Indianapolis 500
4. Final Day of the NBA season
5. Super Bowl
That was the five WORST right Mr Tampa Bay ? Good choices. I agree with number one. Painfull hah ? Whats the best – the Home opener at the ” TROP ” ?
Does Soccer still have fake injury timeouts ? OK.
Here’s my five:
Army – Navy football game. I don’t care if there’s not no team in any league or any sport, plays with more heart and pride than these two, with no giant contract waiting for them in the end. If you don’t like that, you don’t like football.
Little League world series. Although it’s getting to be more commercial and coaches try to stack their teams, it’s still baseball the way it oughta be.
Yankees-Redsox…19 times a year may not be enough.
Stanley Cup playoffs. I know nobody’s watching except Canada but there isn’t a postseason anywhere that matches the intensity of these 15 seven game series.
All 4 major golf championships. You know Tiger will be there and you watch to see who’s got the stones to go the distance with him.
We’ve got 2 votes for the last day of the nba season…nice job! I’d watch women’s basketball before I’d watch an NBA game. Great lists by everyone…especially Tampa. Now here’s my alternate top 5 yearly sporting events:
My fantasy football league’s draft day.
Waiting for Roger Clemens to decide which team he’s going to sign with.
The yearly psycho-analysis of Bobby Knight by the media.
Superbowl commercials.
And last but not least, listening to AS tell me that this will FINALLY be Mikey Vick’s year.
Damn it T-Bone, when Vick throws 30 TD’s and has a comp. % over 65 in the Arena League 10 years from now, you’re going to be sorry…
Great call on the Army-Navy game. I know a ton of people make that game a holiday for a while. Too bad not all of the NCAA games could be as intense as that game. Nice mention…
I lost interest in the Little League WS when one of the teams got Pedro Martinez to pitch for them one year…go back to making it about Ice Pops afterwards instead of – as you noted T-Bone – the coaches turning it into their show.
A “This is Vick’s passing year” S
Pretty good stuff Mr Bone ! I like the Little League, Army-Navy and how the NHL picks it up bigtime in the playoffs …………… Good call.
Got an e-mail from a reader named Ludovic who liked my top five, but also wanted to give his vote for the top five French sporting events:
1. Tour de France
2. Roland Garros (Tennis)
3. Paris-Roubaix (Cycling)
4. France vs. England (Rugby)
5. French Futbol (Soccer for Americans)
I promised I would post his top five and if anyone wants to check out Ludovic’s full blog (you’ll need to translate it) you can go here:

Yo Ludovic ……….. Have you ever heard of the NFL ?
