Bonds blasts No. 735…and so it begins
In his first at bat against the Padres’ Chris Young Wednesday night, Barry Bonds hit a solo shot to left center for his first home run of the year and 735th career blast. And so it begins. Will he break Henry Aaron’s all-time home run record? Will Bud ‘the slug’ Selig be in attendance when/if he does? Will he get booed or will he be in the comforts of Pac Bell/3 Com/AT&T Park? How much steroids did he have to use to get the record, about a half cup (copy write Will Ferrell in Blades of Glory)?
How about this line of thinking: he shouldn’t even be playing this year. No team wanted him this past offseason, yet the Giants basically outbid themselves for his services. While credit is due for them ridding him of his large entourage and various other “privileges”, the Giants just wanted to sell more tickets this year for the All-Star Game. So yet again he’s back for another year, haunting us every step of the way.
Bonds needs 21 more dingers to pass Hammerin’ Hanks’ record. Let’s start the voting now. Be as creative as you want in your explanation of how he will or will not break the record, now’s the time to hammer him at all costs so go for it. Being as objective as possible, he had a solid spring training and his legs look fresh in the first two games (he stole a freaking base in the Giants’ opener) at both the plate and the field. So, I reluctantly say yes, he will break the record. I know, I know, boo me, but I’m being objective.

He’ll break it, and I’ll hate it. But that’s the way of things. He’ll never measure up to Hank no matter how many homers he hits.
73 was a joke.
Mac was juiced.
Sosa was juiced.
As far as I’m concerned, 61 stands, but my opinion is irrelevant. Bonds will top Aaron unless he flames out.
They say Barry is in the best shape of his career. I say he’s got the best juice money can buy since MLB will NEVER be able to detect the stuff he uses. He’ll break the record and hardly anyone outside of San Fran will care except the idiots in Bristol, CT. And I’ll laugh at the dope who wins the auction on e-bay only to have the record last until A-Rod shatters it in 2013.
And 61 is the REAL single season record.
Barry will hit it and it won’t matter at all. Other records have been broken but these new guys can not over shadow the acomplishments of years gone by. It’s called History.
As for A-Rod shattering anything………I think you’re spending way to much time with LaRussa aren’t you.
Get of the sauce.
If he sees enough pitches he could be at or near the record for an end of May series with the Mets. I can only imagine the warm greeting NY fans would give him. He’d be wishing for the days when the worst fans would do is throw syringes at him! Better yet would be that he doesn’t get to the record until the end of August for a series in Washington. That way he could break the record, then head to Capitol Hill and talk to Congress since he missed the last session. How about during a June series in Oakland? He can take a run past the former Balco site and see if maybe the Feds left a box or two of the cream and the clear behind?
More important than Bud Selig being in attendance is do you think Henry Aaron would actually show up to see his record broken by this steroid cheat? The Giants have a mid-August series in Atlanta…intriguing…
“How much steroids did he have to use to get the record, about a half cup”
That is pretty funny. I was looking up some more info on Bonds and his steroids use and found this. I thought the pics were pretty good evidence for steroid use.

All right, we’re off to a great start!
T-Bone – Hammerin’ Hank already said he wouldn’t show up when Bonds broke the record, but I can’t remember if he went back on that threat or not. Interesting scenarios of where he could break it, too…but I’ve got a sinking suspicion that if it’s possible, the Giants will “rest” him until he’s able to break the record in San Fran. That’s a little too conspiracy theory for me, but it’s not out of the question.
Everyone should check out the site Brent posted…there’s a side-by-side comparison of Jason Giambi when he was with the A’s and in the minors. The photo of him in the minors looks like he’s about 75 pounds! Un-real. Bonds and Sosa look ridiculous too…

We make no attempt to single out Barry Bonds. Barry just happens to be carrying the steroid banner presently. McGwire, Sosa, Bud Selig etc… all of them are guilty of drinking from the steroid trough. We do indeed protest the steroid era… and the efforts of Bud Selig. Like a good parent… we do not accept the “everybody does it” excuse… the integrity of the game is at stake. We know the asterisk will never be applied but at least we fans will have said to the future fans … we knew what was going on and we did not stand by and ignore it.
Our asterisk is simply an acknowledgment that we the fans were not ignorant to the truth. Future baseball fans will certainly look back on this time… the steroid era… and they will wonder why no one took a stand and called foul. So this year, we stand up for the past, to show the future, that the now matters. And we will make our stand… in the stands… at the ballpark… for all to see. Our little piece of foam does not attempt to change the record book or right a wrong. That would certainly be beyond our ability and would only add to an already convoluted tangle of words and facts. This little foam asterisk simply allows the fans to demonstrate, in a peaceful simple way, that we were not blind. We were not fooled. And we did not stand by and look the other way while the integrity of the game was ground into the dirt.

Oh Man , Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, A-Rod,Giambi ,and Bud the Slug ……. Man, I’m gonna hurl. You can test ( if you want to ) for steroids – but you can’t for human growth ? Whats the point ? The guys who were on roids just shifted over to H.G. … whats the difference anyway ? Bud knows when to look away. All you guys are right – no integrity.
