Let’s start with one from John Harkey. He writes:
My trade for Gore and D.Jackson has paid huge (and consistent) dividends…not to mention the future earnings potential of keeper value. I couldn’t be happier. Shaun Alexander and Chris Henry have been consistently inconsistent…good riddance.
Too bad Marc Bulger has tanked over the last few weeks and caused my team to lose a couple close games. It would’ve been nice for him to come clean about the rib injury a little sooner but, I should’ve known better with all the sacks his swiss cheese O-line has relinquished.
Please pick my poison this week…both seem like dream matchups but, I know I’ll choose the wrong one! MUST WIN GAME…DON’T LET ME DOWN!!!
Marc “Bruised Rib” Bulger (vs. Arizona)
Phillip “Icey Hot” Rivers (at Buffalo)
That’s a tough call, but I’d stay away from Bulger for the time being. He is averaging about 9.9 ppg over the last three, and he’s admitted that he’s playing hurt. On the other hand, Rivers wasn’t very productive last week, but the Raiders pass defense is pretty good. Counting that performance, he has averaged 17.3 over the last three weeks.
Over the last six weeks, BUF is #20 in PA to QBs, while ARI is #15, a difference of about a point.
Barring a snowstorm (or big winds) in Buffalo, I’d go with Rivers because he’s healthy.
I’m back, after a tough loss with Vick at the helm. My choices for QB this week are Vick, McNair, Manning, and Vince Young. I was almost considering McNair since he torched Cincinnati when they last played.
Is Arnaz Battle worth a start (@NO) over Mark Clayton (@CIN)?
Ben Watson over J Stevens?
Leon
sorry, that’s Eli Manning. If it were Peyton, I wouldn’t need to ask…
Vick has performed pretty well over the past four weeks (18.5 ppg, two 30+ point games before that) and he faces a Washington team that allows the 8th most points to QBs over the last six weeks. You’re right about McNair having a great matchup – CIN has allowed the 4th most points to QBs. But I would stick with Vick, who has been performing well (from a fantasy perspective). McNair is just too fragile, one hit on the head and he’s leaving you with a zero point game.
Young is playing better, but I don’t think you want to lean on the rookie (or shaky Eli) when you have Vick in your pocket.
I made the mistake of starting Battle last week. I think Clayton is the better start, especially against Cincy.
Ben Watson over Stevens – no brainer.
ok John, defense question, minnesota vs chi or indy vs @ten? fighting for a playoff spot. thanks!
Phleck – Neither matchup is good…or bad. IND has been better lately, but on the season, they haven’t been very consistent. I might go another direction. Who is available on your waiver wire?
If I had to choose one, I think I’d go with the Vikings and hope that Grossman continues to play poorly. If the weather’s bad, the Bears will have a tough time moving the ball. The Vikings’ rush D is pretty damn good.
Should I bench Chris Chambers for Greg Jennings?
I hate how Miami refuses to feed the ball to their pro bowl caliber WR…it drives me absolutely insane! Knowing that he is a playmaker, I’m having the toughest time benching him. I keep holding on to the hope that he will bounce back like he did last season.
Is Jennings more promising at this point?
Hey JP, Chester Taylor or Rudi? Neither has a good matchup (Taylor vs. Bears, Rudi vs. Ravens) and Taylor is listed as questionable with, among other things, a sore wrist. The problem is, with the Bengals playing Thursday, I won’t have a fallback option if Taylor’s ruled out Sunday.
I’m thinking I may just have to play it safe. Thoughts?
JEC – Ray Lewis is a little nicked up for the Ravens, so Rudi may have more room to run than he would normally. I’d go with RJ in this situation.
John – I have Chambers in a league and I can’t bring myself to bench him (for Cotchery) though Jennings gets a lot of looks from Favre and would probably be a better option. The odds are that Chris will break out for a big game at some point this season, but is it worth the wait?
I have been starting tomlinson and W. Parker all year but my backup Addai has finally come to life. Since Addai plays the Titans this week, would it be a logical move to start him over Parker?
I slotted Rudi into my lineup shortly after posting my question. Better take the sure points when I can get them — if Chester unexpectantly misses the game, I’d be screwed.
Chris Chambers…ugh. He and I aren’t on speaking terms at this point in the season.
That’s a tough one, Travis. I’d probably stick with Parker, since he’s been better this season. He’s got a pretty good matchup with TB, who gives up the 11th most points to RBs. TEN gives up the 6th most, so you can’t really go wrong with either guy. I just see Addai coming down to Earth a little bit while Parker should bounce back from a bad game.
I just pulled off another solid trade; I gave up Phillip Rivers and Wali Lundy for Duece McAllister.
I picked up Chad Pennigton and Jay Cutler off waivers in addition to back up Marc Bulger. Do you like Pennigton over Bulger this week?
Now, my RB’s are as follows; Gore, McGahee, McAllister, C. Taylor.
I have Taylor benched. Is this the right move or should I bench McGahee?
John – Are you starting 3 RBs? If so, I’d probably go with McGahee over Taylor. BUF has a much better rushing matchup than MIN and Taylor is pretty nicked up.
I think Bulger is still the better play. You just never know what Chad is going to give you.
Damn these Thursday games! They make the decisions so much tougher.
I’m debating between Mark Clayton and Devery Henderson for my #3 receiver. I love Henderson against SF, but much more so if Colston doesn’t play. Unfortunately, I can’t wait for word on that because Clayton plays tonight.
What do you think, JP? I’m thinking of rolling the dice with Henderson because the reports about Colston have been pretty bleak, plus the weather for tonight’s game is supposed to be sloppy, which should favor the run.
Yeah, Thursday football is great, but it’s murder on FF owners. I’m in the same situation with McNair tonight. The forecast calls for rain, but looking at the radar (we do it all here at TSR) it looks like the storm is missing Cincy for the time being. Do you have another option besides Clayton and Henderson? If Colston doesn’t play, Henderson is a great start, so it’s worth the gamble.
No other options. You start three WR (and three RB), and only have four on the roster. It’s a tough league — TD heavy, only one backup at each position. You’ve got to be flawless throughout the season to have a shot, and one injury can sink you.
We’re set up nice right now, but if we win out we’ll have the #1 seed locked up, so this game’s pretty big. I’m thinking I’ll stick with Henderson, but I may regret that tomorrow morning if Clayton goes off. Clayton’s the safer play, I suppose, since he’s guaranteed to start, but I’m really not sure Colston will be able to play.
Horn is Q too so Henderson should see some snaps.
who should i start at TE this week algae crumpler vs washington or ben watson vs detroit? and would it be smart to start devery henderson this week? since colston might still be out with the ankle injury? and for my defense.. giants D or broncos D ?
oh yeah.. and do u think i should start julius jones or iassic bruce as my wr/rb? barber is steraling all of jone’s points so i dont know what i should do this week..
Watson has been hot lately – I’d go with him. Colston is out, so Henderson should be a great start (Horn is supposed to play, however). The Broncos have a better D, but neither team has a great matchup. I’d go with Denver.
Bruce is a safer start at this point than JJ. It’s a shame, but it’s true.
