What’s up with Duckett in Washington?
People assumed that Duckett would be the #2 back behind Portis when the trade was executed, but the truth is that the team really likes Ladell Betts and they were just spooked when Portis went down with the shoulder injury. If Portis and Betts are both healthy, Duckett’s value is pretty minimal. He might see some goal line carries, but Portis is pretty good in that area of the game as well.
I didn’t expect him to be the #2 back, but I expected him to get carries inside the five. Considering the Redskins gave up a first-round pick to get Duckett, you figured they’d actually use him, especially near the goal line and with Portis’ ailing shoulder.
We’ve got him in a TD heavy league and figured he’d be a very good #4 back. Guess not. Then again, maybe the Redskins will limit Portis’ reps once he’s starting again by giving him a breather inside the five and running Duckett out there.
Should I worry about Tiki Barber getting into the endzone this season with Brandon Jacobs taking the short yardage runs for the Giants?
Jacobs got the goal line carries last year as well. The funny thing is, he’s not particularly good at it. I think Tiki has better vision and is better able to find the opening to punch it in.
TDs are difficult to predict from year to year, but the Barber/Jacobs situation hasn’t changed since last season, so you shouldn’t worry about it.
Gibbs “never got around” to getting Duckett the ball? Hey coach, when you give up a NO. 1 pick to get a guy, you “better get around to it.”
Joe forgets sometimes that he’s coaching in the free agency period of the NFL…

Who should I start this week, McGahee or Droughns?
Anthony Stalter:
Do you like Antonio Bryant vs. the Rams this week or Donte’ Stallworth against the G-Men? I want to play Stallworth because of his production last week, but I expect the Niners to be down in their game, which makes me feel Bryant might be a better play…
Thanks
Chris Wiley:
With Steve Smith most likely sitting another week, am I better off starting Jake Plummer over Jake Delhomme?
McGahee vs. Droughns
I would go with McGahee in this situation. The CIN defense looked pretty good against LJ last week, and Droughns isn’t as involved in the passing game as Johnson is. Plus, I just think McGahee is the better back.
Bryant vs. Stallworth
Since I’m not playing you this week, I’m happy to give you an answer. Both guys have nice matchups historically speaking, but the Rams pass defense did look pretty good last week. I agree that Bryant will get a lot of “catch up” catches. I might actually bench Roy Williams this week and go with Stallworth and Bryant – I don’t view Williams as a sure-fire stud, especially against Chicago.
Plummer vs. Delhomme
With Smith out, it definitely hurts Delhomme, but CAR has a better passing matchup than DEN. I have a feeling that DEN will run all over KC and won’t have to pass much with Huard leading the Chiefs. That’s the only downside I see to Plummer this week. It’s a pretty tough call, but I would probably go with Plummer since he’s at home with all of his weapons and is bound to throw a TD or two after last week’s miserable performance.
Here’s two for you, JP:
Tatum Bell or Chester Taylor? I benched Taylor in two leagues last week and it cost me a win, but Tatum could torch the Chiefs.
Randy Moss or Antonio Bryant. It feels crazy to even consider this, but how much time are the Raiders going to have to throw against the Ravens? They looked awful against SD, and they’ll most likely look awful against Baltimore.
Bell vs. Taylor is a tough call. From a fantasy perspective, the Chiefs really aren’t that bad against the run, but I don’t like their chances against the Broncos. Tatum Bell could have a huge game, but so could Mike Bell. I’d probably go with Taylor who is the undisputed guy in Minnesota.
I expect the Raiders’ offense to return to the mean this week, so I would start Moss. But if he and Brooks have another piss poor outing, benching him for Bryant would be reasonable.
Boy, I hope you dismissed my advice on Randy Moss. The Raiders are awful and I would start Bryant ahead of Moss until Brooks, Shell and company show some signs of life.
Actually, yeah, I decided to bench Moss last minute. Too bad I didn’t bench Delhomme too.
