As a New England Patriots fan, and sufferer of the Pete Carroll Years, the last thing that I will ever say about Pete Carroll is that he acts like he's better than anyone else. His flaw as an NFL coach was that he was too buddy-buddy with the players, which makes him the perfect college coach, and the proof of his ability to wrangle college kids is in the pudding. To strip them of their championship over rent money seems to me like cutting off their nose to spite their face.

But never mind that. "Creditability"? That's awesome. Someone needs to send that one to George W. Bush, stat.

I must agree with G on this one. A player 19-20 years old cannot be responsible for his parents actions. Could you tell your parents at that age what to do? Taking away a national championship is not the answer. I personally feel no team should ever have it's championship "pulled" due to one or two players actions. If we did this we would have no winners. I guess you think every game Jason Giambi (an admitted steroid user) played in should be forfeited? Give me a break!

Gerardo,

You are trying to tell me that Coach Carroll didn't know Bush's parents were living in a mansion right outside of campus and getting money. I don't think it would be that hard to check on your players and families living arrangements. At the very least, they university should be responsible for following up on this and showing documentatoin of where the students and their family reside. We can't turn a blind eye to reality.
As far as ruining football, I believe allowing the "acceptions" you are talking about now will ruin college football in the end.
I know college is not totally "pure", but lets try and save what we can.

I disagree. Unless Carrol and USC knew about this, taking away their National Championship seems way too extreme. I think the BCS would lose credibility by getting involved in this crap.

The NCAA rules are very hard to enforce, and I don't want every team that wins a championship to have to hold their breath for years to see if it will be stripped away. Doing that would ruin college football.

As Ohio State fans we had to put up with Clarrett's bullshit, and it would not have been fair to strip the Buckeyes of their title. The same hold true here. There should be some penalty, but not something that extreme.

Maybe they should penalize the player - like he can't have any contact with the university, help in recruiting or attend any games for 5 years.

Also, they can take away scholarships.

But going back and penealizing the players who won it on the field is way too much.
