Morrison, Redick invited to Team USA tryouts
On Sunday, the 23 players invited to play or tryout for Team USA were officially announced. The only two collegiate players on the list are Gonzaga’s Adam Morrison and Duke’s J.J. Redick.
“They’re both great scorers,” Krzyzewski said. “I think some collegiate players going into this type of situation would be a little bit intimidated. I don’t think either one of these guys will. They more define the specialist role.”
Coach K appears determined to have enough shooters on Team USA, which was one of the downfalls of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team.

As ice cold as Redick is right now, they’d be fools to bring him on board. If he can’t score against the college kids, he’s damn sure not to sure against the world’s best.
Boy, I’ll have to make note of this statement. Are you saying that a player should be judged only on his last four games and that Coach K (along with Jerry Colangelo, who built the modern-day Suns) are fools, all in the same sentence?
That is some bold stuff. That’s like saying “Crash” is Oscar-worthy.
Crash is Oscar worthy, but I have to agree that Redick deserves the invitation. The fact that he’s cold right now is irrelevant.
I like the idea of bringing in college players who can shoot. They would be a good addition to the international game. Coach K saw what went wrong with prior teams, where NBA ball-hogs who were too used to the ridiculous NBA game (not real basketball) had big trouble playing in the international game.
Gotta trust Coach K on this one.
I wasn’t a big fan of “Crash” but that line was meant as a joke – did you see Gigi’s rant about “Crash” over at PH. It was quite impressive.
