Bucks trade Mason for Magloire
ESPN is reporting that the Milwaukee Bucks have traded swingman Desmond Mason and their 2006 first round pick to the New Orleans Hornets for power forward/center Jamaal Magloire. It’s possible that the Bucks will play Magloire alongside Andrew Bogut, with newly acquired Bobby Simmons at small forward. This would give the Bucks a starting lineup of T.J Ford, Michael Redd, Simmons, Magloire and Bogut. If Bogut progresses quickly and Ford continues to play well, this could be a formidable fivesome.
Mason will step into the starting small forward spot for the Hornets, playing alongside Chris Paul and J.R. Smith, giving New Orleans an exciting trio that will look to push the ball. Chris Andersen and P.J. Brown will likely round out the starting five.

John, would the Bucks consider starting Magloire at center and having Bogut come off the bench? That’s potentially crippling news for Bogut’s fantasy value.
I think Mason’s going to explode this year now that he’s a starter in a run-and-gun offense.
Considering that Joe Smith would be the guy to start at PF in that situation, I don’t think it will happen. The Bucks will try to go with both Magloire and Bogut in the starting lineup. Bogut actually has the ball handling skills and the shooting touch to play PF, so we may see him used on the perimeter in the Bucks offense.
Mason should be good now that he’s guaranteed starters minutes.
Larry Harris is a horrible general manager and a liar. He told Desmond that he did not have to worry about being traded and now look what happened. Desmond does not want to go to New Orleans and Jamaal does not want to come here and when players don’t like where they are, they are probably not going to play as good. Now, Andrew Bogut will most likely not start, and he is too good to be coming off the bench. This whole trade was horrible for the Bucks, especially since we gave up a first round draft pick and cash up along with one of our best players.
Brooke – Tell us how you really feel! I read the Journal-Sentinel article about how Mason called Harris a liar, but he has to know that this is a business. The writing was on the wall when the Bucks signed Simmons, which I think is a good move, no matter how popular Mason is with the fans. Desmond is coming into the final year of his contract and he had to know that there was a good chance that the Bucks would trade him to get something for him, because they weren’t going to invest a large amount of money in a backup to Simmons. It looks like if Joe Smith is healthy they are going to go with him and Magloire at the 4 and 5, using Bogut to backup both positions. If Smith isn’t healthy by Tuesday, then it looks like Bogut will start at power forward.
Where did you read that Jamaal doesn’t want to play for the Bucks? In this article from nola.com the writer describes Magloire’s reaction the following way:
Magloire, 27, who scored 12 points and grabbed 15 rebounds against Shaquille O’Neal and the Miami Heat in his final game with the Hornets on Tuesday night in Baton Rouge, didn’t seem to mind the trade. When he got news of it about 15 minutes before practice ended at the Ford Center, he flashed a smile, then happily began to approach each player with a handshake or hug to say goodbye.
I would think he’d be happy to be off the Hornets and on an up-and-coming team like the Bucks.
