Peyton manning is killing me. Should I be worried yet?
G, He’s killing me as well in one league. I’ve got Carson Palmer backing him up and I am seriously considering starting Palmer instead. Manning has Tennessee this week, which should be a favorable matchup (the Titans have allowed 215 yds per game and 6 passing TDs), but last week’s game against Cleveland was a very favorable matchup and Peyton didn’t throw a TD. NFL defenses copy each other and once one team finds a way to slow down or stop a prolific offense, the rest of the league simply does the same thing. In this case, it means rushing three lineman and dropping eight players into coverage. In essence, they are letting Manning have all the underneath stuff he wants, but limiting the big play. The Colts defense is good enough that they can now play this “take what you give me” type game and it is really hurting Peyton’s numbers. I suspect that Manning will have a great game soon, but if you have a backup that is playing well (like Palmer) it might be time to stick him in there.
I drafted two top tier guys (L. Coles, Todd Heap) who have both lost their starting quarterbacks, and have the numbers to show for it. Are they worth starting anymore?
Gigi – It depends on who else you have. Heap’s chances aren’t hurt much by having Wright in there instead of Boller – that’s not much of a dropoff. If Pennington misses a lot of time, it will definitely hurt Coles, especially if Fiedler is out as well. Post a list of your other WRs and I can tell you where I’d rank Coles among them.
Who to start? I can only start 2 RB’s:
Jamal Lewis vs. NYJ
Deuce McAllister vs Buffalo
Steven Jackson vs NYG
LaMont Jordan vs DAL
Also, the waiver wire is pretty much wiped clean right now. Should I hang on the J.J. Arrington for now to see if something changes?
I actually wonder if Coles’ value will see a nice boost with the Vinny signing, since Testaverde can still throw the deep ball whereas Pennington, even when he was healthy, was never known for his arm strength. If anything, I’d think Pennington’s injury and Vinny’s arrival is a lateral move for Coles, with perhaps fewer receptions on his stat sheet by the end of the year but more big plays downfield.
Man, GFunk, that’s a tough call.
Lewis hasn’t looked healthy at all this year and should maybe be riding your bench until he finally starts playing like a top back again. Jackson, meanwhile, is banged up (ribs). I think I’d definitely go with Jordan out of these four — his overall numbers haven’t been very impressive but he’s catching passes and scoring some touchdowns, so even while he’s not racking up a ton of yards, he’s still contributing to fantasy teams. For your second running back, Deuce is probably the healthiest option and while the match-up against Buffalo may turn you off a bit, keep in mind the Bills just lost their best defender for the season in LB Takeo Spikes. Deuce hasn’t delivered great yardage numbers yet either but, just like Jordan, he’s been scoring and catching some passes, so you should look his way this weekend.
As for Arrington, if there’s nothing out there worth grabbing on the waiver wire (I’m assuming Mewelde Moore is gone?), I’d stand pat and see what happens. If Marcel Shipp is out there, I’d try to pick him up as well, see how the Arizona backfield situation shakes out in the next few weeks and then cut the loser. Barring that, though, you probably won’t find a back on your waiver wire with much more upside than Arrington, and Dennis Green still loves the guy so if you have room to stash him, I would.
Unless, of course, you need help at other positions. In that case, since you’ve got four decent backs, it may not be a bad idea to cut Arrington for a productive receiver or tight end, depending on your team needs and who that WR or TE would be.
A agree about Vinnie and Coles. You’ll see Vinnie airing it out.
Who should I start between Farve and Jake Delhomme? Both face pretty good DEF.
Delhomme actually has a pretty good matchup against a suspect GB pass DT. I’d go with Jake.
Which 3 WRs would you start?
1. Jimmy Smith
2. Travis Taylor
3. Larry Fitgerald
4. Santana Moss
5. Darell Jackson
Also, I need to drop one WR to pick-up a RB for when J.Jones and S.Alexander are on a bye week (Shipp is still available). Who would you drop (I also have Burleson, but, if Daunte is truly “back”, he could be play a key role in a few weeks)?
Thanks.
That’s quite the receiving corps (and quite the team with Shaun and JJ in the backfield). I’d start Jackson every week. Fitzgerald would be a good start this week against a suspect SF DT. The last spot is tough, but I’d probably go with Jimmy Smith as he’s probably the most consistent of the three, but one could easily argue for either of the other two guys.
As far as cutting one, if you think Burleson is going to be valuable, then Taylor would probably be the guy to cut. He’s got the best chance of still being there after your RBs’ bye weeks.
No concern about Fitzgerald w/ McCown taking the snaps? Thx.
Not really…McCown is pretty capable. You really can’t go wrong starting any of those guys. The only guy that is head and shoulders above the rest is DJax.
I’m sorry I mixed up two teams…I meant to ask Farve or Plummer. Plummer is vs. JAX and Farve vs CAR.
mminelli – I’d say that Favre has a slightly better matchup, so I’d probably go with him over Plummer this week. It’s a close call though.
