Bullz-Eye released its list of the NFL’s most overrated and underrated teams. Among those listed as overrated are the Colts and Patriots, while the Cardinals and Rams were selected as underrated.
One of the reasons the Pats may be overrated this year is, with Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel now coaching elsewhere, Bill Belichick will have to prove he can win without his two superb coordinators. Read more about this here.

I don’t agree with the Colts being overrated. They added DT Simon to their defense so they could improve in that area, and they still have the most potent offense in the league. If they get home field advantage for a change they could be Super Bowl bound.
As for underrated teams, I think the Dolphins, Niners and Browns will all be much better this season now that they have good head coaches. In might take a little time to get things going but all three should improve.
I agree with your disagreement, G. The Colts D is aggressive and fast, they create turnovers, and the addition of Simon gives Dungy his Indy version of Warren Sapp to go along with one of the league’s premier pass rushers, Dwight Freeney. If it’s at all possible, I think they’re better this year than they were last season.
The pieces are there, but they’ve said that before. Will this be the year that the defense actually does enough to get the Colts to the Super Bowl? I think the Vegas odds (11/2) are way too low.
Is it safe to say after last night that the Patriots are not overrated? Brady looked awesome and both sides of the ball didn’t seem to miss a beat after losing their coordinators.
The only caveat is that Oakland might be the worst-coached team in football. They make tons of idiotic mistakes. They have allot of talent and they can beat anyone if they play well, but they need to become more disciplined.
The Raiders defense is terrible and, as you pointed out, Oakland shot themselves in the foot time after time last night with bonehead penalties. Plus, as well as the Pats offense played in the first half, they weren’t nearly as effective in the second half, especially on third down, and Lamont Jordan and Zach Crockett both ran the ball well against the New England defense.
It’s just one game. Let’s see where the Patriots stand in week six after facing Carolina, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Atlanta and Denver.
The Pats looked great last night, as much as it pains me to say that. Brady had a wide open receiver on every play, it was unreal. He didn’t have to be great, just pedestrian, and he played the role well. I think it is too early to say whether they are overrated or not.
“Oakland shot themselves in the foot time after time last night with bonehead penalties.”
Does that surprise you? They’re the RAIDERS. It doesn’t matter who coaches them, the Raiders will never be a disciplined team. It would betray their heritage.
I think that the Rams will do way better this year with there HB Steven Jackson as there starter and The best Wide Recievers in the league (As alwase) Torry Holt and Issac Bruce, and not to mention Kevin Curtis. I think the Marc Bulger has been doing way better than Kurt Warner in his days.
Wow,after seeing Pittsburgh roll and Arizona lay an egg, I might have to flip my predictions. Parker might be better than the other Steeler backs, though we’ll have to see him do it against a better team. Are the Steelers that could or are the Titans that bad??
I can’t believe anyone would consider the Colts an “over rated” team in the first place. All of the game commentators and all the ESPN guys talk smack about them. Everyone says how bad their defense is. And there’s the whole “Peyton can’t win the big games” nonsense. If anything this team is UNDER rated. I agree their defense was nothing to write home about last season, and special teams are still lower echelon this year, but their defense is SMOKIN! Not only did they get Simon, but Bob Sanders is healthy this year–keep an eye on him, this guy is the ultimate play maker. Plus their first round draft pick, Marlin Jackson, is going to be among the elite safteys in the league. Let’s just say he hits so hard he might give himself a concussion. AND Tripplet, who was fat and slow last year, has lost 25 pounds and already leads the team in sacks after the first game! Watch out Pats, this team is for real now.
In defense of naming the Colts my most overrated team, the 11-2 odds of them winning the Super Bowl was what I was going by. Considering that’s around the same number as the Patriots and they’ve won three of the last four and look strong again this year, I can’t help but think the Colts are overrated until they get to a Super Bowl. The defense certainly looks better (in one game against BAL), but until they get to a Super Bowl, I’m not a believer. And they’re my favorite AFC team.
I know they’ve only played one game, but the defense looks WAAAAAAAAAY better already than it did last year. Granted Baltimore doesn’t have a great offense by any means, but to those of us from Indy who are tired of being embarrased by the Pats this defense is really getting us amped up.
That’s good…I sure hope they represent the AFC in the SB – this might be their best chance with Edge’s long term status up in the air and Marvin slightly past his prime.
